The
Wine Road of Tokaj
The unique Tokaj wine -
presentation of the Slovak part of the Tokaj viticultural regions,
vine growing and processing of grapes and technological aspects of
the Tokaj wine production has led to the establishment of The
Wine Road of Tokaj.
The Tokaj wine is rightly
referred to as the King of wines and the wine of Kings because in
the past it was served in all royal tables in Europe.
Now The Wine Road of Tokaj with the centres in Malá Tŕňa
and Veľká Tŕňa offers ten kinds of wines (among them the
most famous is the two to six “barrelled” one called Tokajský
výber), which are also highly appreciated abroad.
The special detail of the Wine
Road are the cellars of Tokaj which date to the period of
Turkish wars and to certain extent they were built as shelters
against invaders. Some of them are carved 8 to 16 m deep into
volcanic rocks.

mountain range Malé Karpaty in the south-west of Slovakia is
predetermined for vine growing. This tradition is used and promoted
by what is called the Malokarpatská vínna cesta, (The Wine

The idea to establish and

region of Malé Karpaty and to present it to both the Slovak and
foreign visitors.
Vine growing and wine
producing tradition, long history lavishly represented by old
monuments, surviving folklore and typical character of the local
houses, cuisine, interesting fauna and flora which invites to relax,
these are all attractive articles for tourists seeking something new
and entertaining.

Pezinok, and Modra, contiguous villages and ends in Trnava.
Apart from cultural and
historic monuments visitors will be certainly intrigued by tradition
of varied folklore in individual communes of this region where they
can pass nice time in numerous wine cellars tasting the excellent
dish like the baked goose with a glass of fine local wine and
